What payments are paid in an injury claim under Third Party Liability?
There may be payments to you, your passenger(s), or a pedestrian or cyclist who is involved in an accident. There are two types of payments:
"Special damages"- These payments cover expenses like medical, ambulance, hospital or funeral bills, as well as lost wages. These are expenses that can be proven with documents.
"General damages"- These damages are for pain and suffering. They compensate for future disability and expenses, pain and inconvenience, reduced life expectancy and reduced or loss of capacity for future earnings. These damages are only available through lawsuits. Many provinces don't allow these lawsuits or limit them to specific situations.*
*Not applicable in Quebec. Bodily injuries caused by an accident are covered by the Socitété d’Assurance Automobile du Quebec. Please contact us at 1.833.223.8741 if you have questions about coverage in Quebec.

Can I drive off the lot with my new car before updating my insurance?
If your vehicle is leased or financed, the dealership will need to ensure that you have updated your insurance to cover your new vehicle before allowing you to take possession of the vehicle.
It is always in your best interest to update your policy prior to picking up your new vehicle for you and your family's protection.
To update your policy contact us at 1.833.223.8740. Please reference your policy number, as well as your newly acquired vehicle's VIN. Learn more about how to find your VIN.
Should I put winter tires on my car?
As a general rule, winter tires become necessary when the average daily temperature drops to below 7 °C for 10 consecutive days. And, although only legally mandatory in Quebec, it’s a smart idea to put them on your vehicle. Even if you have all-season tires, they are not the same as winter tires.
The rubber on winter tires are designed with deeper treads, giving you much needed grip on unpredictably icy roads
Winter tires also give you more maneuverability in snow
Winter tires that are marked with the snowflake on the sidewall will provide the best possible protection during the winter driving season.
If you have any specific questions about how winter tires might impact your insurance premium, your Service Specialist will be happy to answer them.
