Tap on “Enable/Disable Crash Assist” under your Scotia Home & Auto Insurance App’s Assistance tab.
Can I use assistance options even if Crash Assist has not detected an accident?
Yes, you can always access all Crash Assist options from your Scotia Home & Auto Insurance App.
I was involved in an accident, but it wasn’t detected by Crash Assist. Why not?
Crash Assist detects moderate to severe accidents: it may not detect minor incidents or collisions at low speeds or within the first kilometre of a road trip.
Four reasons why an accident might go undetected:
device in “Do Not Disturb” mode
device in “energy-saving” mode or with a low battery
weak GPS signal
poor smartphone reception
Four reasons why Crash Assist is not working:
Crash Assist disabled
offline
no data plan
access to notifications and location data is not authorized
What do I do if an accident was mistakenly detected?
Either ignore the notification or tap “I didn't have an accident” at the bottom of the screen to let us know you're fine and that it was a mistake.
Will a sudden movement of my phone activate Crash Assist?
No. Don't worry. The technology used by Crash Assist is so advanced that the algorithm can distinguish between an actual accident and your phone being dropped.
Will the detected accident affect my premium if I don't make a claim?
No. The accident won’t appear on your insurance file record if you don’t submit a claim. So, there won’t be any increase in your auto insurance premium as a result.
