Smarter ride helps you drive safer by using your driving data to explain driving habits such as:
speed (whether or not you follow the speed limit)
smoothness (if you brake hard or take sharp turns)
focus (if you use your phone while driving)
The App will also provide you with an overview of your driving. If you're generally a safe driver, your premium could decrease. However, if you take risks on the road, you can expect your premium to increase.
For more details, go to the Smarter ride section of the Scotia Home & Auto Insurance App and check the "Make every trip count" feature:
Far right of the green half of the gauge, you could see a decrease in premium between 10% and 25%.
Middle of the gauge, your premium could fluctuate slightly up or down between 1% and 10%, or there could be no change (0%).
Far left of the orange half of the gauge, you could see an increase in premium between 10% and 25%.
This is just an example of what your personalized premium Adjustment could be. As a result, we make no representations about the accuracy of the example. Several factors are taken into account to calculate your premium other than your participation in Smarter ride, which increases or decreases when your insurance is renewed.
Check the App regularly to help improve your driving.
Will the detected accident affect my premium if I don't make a claim?
No. The accident won’t appear on your insurance file record if you don’t submit a claim. So, there won’t be any increase in your auto insurance premium as a result.
Why should I register to the online-services?
The online services give you access to your insurance anytime, anywhere. They provide unlimited access to view your insurance documents and online claims. Plus, you chose to receive all your documents electronically. Make your life easier with our online services. There’s even more in the app!
If someone else drives my car, how do I share my digital proof of insurance with them?
Only policyholders* can access the digital proof of insurance through the app.
If you have an iPhone, you can use the Wallet app. Select the three-dot menu to access the Share feature. You can also use AirDrop, iMessage, or email to share a PDF of your proof of insurance.
If you have an Android device, select the PDF button at the bottom of your digital proof of insurance and share it by email.
*A policyholder is the person who has purchased and owns the insurance policy.

What happens to my personalized price if the Alberta Government’s premium cap for good drivers is removed?
